The so-called "lo-fi" current is a dominant trend on the streaming platforms, a particular declination of hip hop, of calm and relaxed cadences that millions around the world use to study, read, walk and in the most different contexts where abstraction is the goal.
Now, just over a year after its original release, "O Futuro é Mais Bonito" (The Future is More Beautiful), one of the central themes in the latest songbook by Anna Setton, a Brazilian artist living in Portugal, has been given a lo-fi makeover by Renato Iwai, a Brazilian producer based in Tokyo, Japan.
What was already cool and breezy in the original, now takes on new and refined textures that, in fact, seem to point to the future without taking away the identity of the production originally stamped by Barro and Guilherme Assis for the theme composed by Anna Setton and Igor Carvalho. "A necessary mantra for better times," explains Anna, now wrapped in frequencies and effects that point to this desire.
Anna and Renato met in Tokyo in 2019, and since then the producer has closely followed the work of the talented Brazilian singer, guitarist and songwriter. With a strong artistic connection and a mutual respect for each other's music, the idea of creating a lo-fi version of "O Futuro é Mais Bonito" came naturally during a conversation between them.
Anna Setton, celebrated for her unique ability to unite MPB and regional Brazilian music, lends her soft voice and refined musicality to this new version. Anna's original album brought an applauded freshness to the Brazilian music scene and now, with Renato's collaboration, the song is given a new lease of life, exploiting the subtle hallmarks of the fi-fi sound to create a relaxing and introspective atmosphere.
Renato Iwai, in addition to his work as a producer and musical director, is the talent behind the LO-FI Beats by Pyramid project in Tokyo, standing out on the music scene with his engaging and innovative productions. His ability to transform songs into immersive listening experiences is once again showcased in this collaboration.
The lo-fi version of "O Futuro é Mais Bonito" is now available on all digital platforms. This partnership between Anna Setton and Renato Iwai promises to delight fans and win over new listeners, extending the reach of the beauty of Brazilian music to an even wider audience.
BiographySinger and composer from São Paulo, Anna Setton has already released two albums and is getting ready to release her third album. Anna sang for years at night in São Paulo alongside great instrumentalists with whom she sang a vast repertoire of jazz, MPB and bossa nova.
In 2018, she released her debut album, Anna Setton, which was produced by Swami Jr. and brings her voice as a songwriter to the public for the first time. Her show circulated in Brazil and abroad, in countries such as Portugal, France, Germany, England, Australia, Korea and Japan.
In 2020, with the onset of the pandemic, its production was marked by weekly and spontaneous lives – more than 70 in total – in addition to remote collaboration videos that kept communication active with the public and with other artists.
In December 2021, Anna released the album, Onde Mora o meu Coração , the result of intense musical activity driven by virtual presentations.
The album brings in the repertoire consecrated themes of the popular songbook and that gained very personal contours through its interpretation. In solo voice and guitar versions, the album also features the authorial song Revoada, a partnership with Edu Sangirardi and Nocturno Antillano (Julio Gutiérrez) in which he performs a duet with the great Cuban singer Omara Portuondo, and exclusively on this track, features the guitar of Swami Jr who also produced the album.
As a performer, Anna recorded with names like Toquinho, with whom she toured for five years in Brazil and abroad, Mestrinho and Sadao Watanabe. She also participated in the last project directed by Zuza Homem de Mello, Copacabana – a dive into failed loves, in addition to shows alongside João Bosco, Paulinho da Viola, Martinho da Vila and Mônica Salmaso.
