Fado singer Matilde Cid grew up in the enchanting town of Estremoz in the Alentejo in a family where music played a central role. Her father's love of jazz, blues and bossa nova and her mother's devotion to the melancholy beauty of fado formed the mosaic of the fadista's musical soul.
Matilde grew up with the sound of the voices of fado legends such as Maria Teresa de Noronha, Hermínia Silva and Carlos Ramos. It was only later in her life that she discovered her passion for this genre, when she experienced the bohemian atmosphere of the capital's fado houses.
Matilde Cid found her place among the stars of fado, performing at the Casa da Mariquinhas and later at venues such as Mesa de Frades and Associação do Fado Casto. Today she regularly performs at the renowned fado restaurant Fado ao Carmo together with virtuoso Luís Guerreiro, who also accompanies her at her concerts.
Matilde's solo journey began in 2016 at the Centro Cultural de Belém, where she captivated the audience and quickly filled the hall to capacity. A triumphant return in 2021 cemented her place as a new rising star in the world of fado. With her enchanting voice, she has conquered stages all over the world, from the Fado Festival in the Canary Islands, where she made her international debut, to NOS Alive, where she gave two unforgettable performances.
In 2019, Matilde released her debut album "Puro", which received a nomination for the prestigious Best Fado Album Award at the PLAY Awards - Portuguese Music Awards 2020.
On her new album "Desassossego" (Restlessness), the artist shows her most creative side and makes her debut as a composer. The first single "Dia Não" describes Matilde's need for loneliness in the lyrics she wrote herself.
The second single "Vem", which was written entirely by the artist and musically leaves the sphere of fado, is about the human need to listen more to the heart than to the mind.
A Noite", on the other hand, was conceived as an a cappella piece in which the harmonies are produced by a choir. This gave the theme a heavenly yet sombre atmosphere which, in Matilde Cid's opinion, "fits perfectly with the lyrics I wrote".
This work shows the maturity of the fado singer both in her artistic approach and in her singing style.
On her second album, Matilde Cid shows all the beauty of her great passion, traditional fado, and at the same time reveals her poetic and musical side.
