Stefan Grasse's 20th album is dedicated to music for five guitars.
Since his minimal music album „Ripples“, which appeared in 1996, Grasse has been using the process in a multi-layer recordings. The English composer Vivienne Olive composed the neo-baroque „Sarabande for John“ including an expansively virtuoso solo cadenza. The Scottish composer Edward McGuire wrote „Nocturne and Sunrise“. After unreal dark night sounds of the first part, the second part starts in dance-like minimal music, greeting the first rays of sunshine of a new day.
For more than 30 years, Stefan Grasse has been friends and artistically connected with Vivienne Olive and Edward McGuire. Since then he has recorded and published numerous of their compositions.

Sarabande for John
This guitar quintet is an arrangement of the 4th movement of my Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra - "Ceilidh". The work is dedicated to the Scottish composer, John Maxwell Geddes, who died in 2017. The guitarist Stefan Grasse and I both worked closely together with John. Although "Ceilidh" is an otherwise joyous and fun work, the 4th movement - a sarabande - is more of a thoughtful elegy.

Nocturne and Sunrise
Out of the mysterious night, with hints of threats and danger, the five guitars strive to survive. They share and echo their sentiments and finally emerge into the first rays of sunshine - reaching out to create an optimistic concord. That is the emotional journey in my new Nocturne and Sunrise.
